However, the subject of this journal is something I find distressing namely; What the hell happened to creativity?
On one of my perusals of someone's favorites, I noticed a disturbing trend, primarily with werewolves; they all friggin look the same. They're the same freakin' layout, typical wolf head, human body and hands, wolf feet, with maybe something to differentiate them from the rest of the colony. Maybe one in a thousand of these drawings actually show a werewolf with traits from something OTHER than a wolf.
And it doesn't stop there.
Vampires ALL look like gothic fabios, mummies all come from Egypt, fish people look like freakin' trout, Werewolves and vampires hate each other, etc.
And the fandoms. I look in the darkstalkers fandoms, and if it's a couple pic EVERYONE does JonXFelicia, DimitriXMorrigan, and RaptorXHsien-Ko. No one seems to do anything different or just have fun with their world or fandom. It's always the same kind of club/cult mentality. It has to be hushed reverence, or in-jokes. RARELY will I see someone making fun of their fandom in other comedic ways, or doing SOMETHING different with a particular property they enjoy.
I know this may be hypocritical, since I too have commited some these mistakes, but I learned from them, and I try to always think outside the box. Maybe the crushing lonlieness of being the only one (or so it feels) has finally gotten to me. But the last time I checked, there was an "art" and "deviant" in "Deviantart". But am I seeing it? NO. Instead, all I'm getting is a few gems in the ocean of conformity, and I'm getting sick of it.
All I want to know is why? Why can't everyone here think outside the box?
Is it the fact that our demographics primarily consist of tweens and young teens, who treat this site as if it were mySpace or Facebook?
Is it because this is what eventually results from working in the pros for too long?
Is this what has become of our society after an entire century of Hollywood films and pop culture? Or seek to enter that culture?
Is this what happens when secularism begins to rise, and people seek more "PC" forms of belief?
Is it just human nature?
Or is it all of the above?
If you have an answer, please do not hesitate to respond.
Remember everyone: YOU'RE the artist! The universe is but a canvas, anatomy mere clay, and the world around naught but toys for your imagination to play with!
