Hey-Howdy-Hey, Everyone!

I'm writing this journal because something is bugging me, namely about the Universal Monster reboots and the reaction the fandom has. Now on the one hand I agree that they shouldn't be action-adventure films, but I do like the fact that they are going to put them in our modern day world. To elaborate further, I've felt for a few years now that the UM films simply need to be updated, since they actually took place in years/decades they were filmed in. But a lot of UM fans feel that they need to be dark period pieces, which I have felt could actually hurt their chances at connecting with a modern audience.

So my question is, why do so many fans want the monsters to be period horror pieces rather than be modern horror pieces? What am I missing or misunderstanding from the fandoms point of view? Please answer if you can, and make it as elaborate and well thought out as possible!

Frankenstein and Dracula for example are the ones who have to maintain their period look at least at the start, then they could move on to the present just like the newest Dracula film and "I Frankenstein"!

I suppose so, but what I'm wondering is why they HAVE to be period pieces? I mean, Frankenstein can still take place in the here and now....
